The Waking Watch Relief Fund

Many leaseholders in buildings with fire safety problems have faced significant costs for Waking Watch patrols and enhanced fire alarm systems, while buildings await remediation.

Government funding to assist with this was increased from £30m to £35m in September 2021, with a deadline date for applications of 10th December 2021.

To qualify, a building must have the following features:

  • Privately owned
  • Higher than 17.70 meters.
  • Have unsafe cladding
  • Have a waking watch paid for by leaseholders

In addition to paying for a waking watch, the fund will address fire alarm systems, extending retrospectively to alarms installed after 17th December 2020.

The aim is to reduce dependence on waking watch and encourage the installation of a common alarm system.

E&J Estates has worked with its agent network to identify and secure funding on qualifying buildings across its landlords’ estate.
